Over a year away but one to put in the diary is a symposium on Platinum and Palladium prints to be held in Washington DC on the 21st October-24 October 2014, covering the Technical and Aesthetic history, Chemistry and Connoisseurship. Run by the foundation of the American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian Institution, this 4 day event will no doubt be very interesting with expert speakers from around the world taking part. Am looking forward to attending, my thanks to Mike Ware for alerting me to this event. Full detailed program of events to follow.

Simon is well known for his collaborative work with Vaughan Oliver and the design studios 23 Envelope with whom he has provided  photographic imagery used on album artwork for bands such as the Pixies, Red House Painters, Heidi Berry and other artists on the 4AD label. He has an interest in decayed textures and unusual juxtapositions of subject matter as well as empty spaces, desolation and loneliness. What I love about Simon’s work is that is full of detail and texture that translates so well when printing with platinum & palladium. I will post the scans of the full series when complete.

Here are a few excerpts from the 13 page article on my platinum printing studio, DC Editions, that will feature in next months ‘International Journal of Contemporary Photography.’ (Volume 8, Edition 4). For larger versions click on images or here.

The article highlights the working practices of my printing studio and features scanned platinum/palladium print reproductions of some of the artists I have worked with over the years including Rankin/Damien Hirst, Simon Larbalestier, Stefan Milev, Wendy Bevan, Paul Coghlin and others.

Will post full article once it has been published. To subscribe to the paper and digital edition of the journal visit http://www.silvershotz.com
